Tour Itinerary

Iona, Mull
Day One
After photographing Black Guillemots at Oban harbour we will make the short ferry crossing to Craignure. On the way we will keep a lookout from the boat for any Skuas and Shearwaters that are in the area - Pomarine Skua was a highlight of the crossing in 2009.

Black Guillemot, Oban Harbour
We will settle into our accommodation and use the remaining day to get familiar with some of the areas nearby. In the evening we will use the light during the 'golden hours' to look for and photograph Short Eared Owl and Hen Harrier.
Day
Two
An optional early start on our first full day as we head to a spot favoured by Otters. A family of three Otters frequented this site in 2009. We will also photograph waders in the Glenmore area such as Golden Plover, Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher and Curlew.
After breakfast we will head on to a hillside walk where there is a chance of seeing Golden Eagle This location often holds up to five Cuckoos and other interesting wildlife such as Adders. Whinchat and Wheatear are plentiful.
Grey Seals and White Tailed Eagles are usually in the area sitting on exposed reefs or the shoreline.
We will use the evening light to look for more Owls and Harriers for those that have the energy!
Whinchat, Glenmore, Mull
Day Three
Another early start to a different Otter location as we to try and get to grips with photographing one of our favourite mammals.

Otter, Grasspoint, Mull
After breakfast we will head to Ffionphort to look for Corncrakes on the fabulous island of Iona. In 2008 we were lucky enough to photograph a 'rasping' male that showed very well. We will head to the best places for views and with luck may get a chance for a photograph.
When we have given the Corncrake every opportunity we will go to a Mountain Hare site after landing back on Mull - an area also good for Hen Harrier and Cuckoo.
The evening can be spent relaxing after a long day in the field or in the area around where we are staying photographing waders and landscapes.
Day Four
Our fourth day is all about Puffins as we set sail with Turus Mara for the Treshnish Isles. We will alight briefly at Fingals Cave before heading onto Lunga and the friendliest Puffins we have ever found. We will look at how to get some truly memorable 'picture postcard' shots of these quizzical creatures.
We should also see Fulmar, Shag and Kittiwake, and occasionally Minke Whales and other Cetaceans are seen on the crossing.
Manx Shearwater and Skuas were another highlight of the 2008 trip along with large flocks of Artic Terns.
Redpoll and Twite can be among the confiding passerines on Lunga, although it can be hard not to become too distracted by the Puffins.
Puffin, Treshnish Isles, Mull
Day Five
The final morning will be spent revisiting our favourite and most productive sites from the week and making sure we use the last of our time to get any shots needed. Snipe, Golden Plover, Eider and Curlew are all on offer as we travel around the island.

Snipe, Glenmore, Mull
On our way back to the ferry we will stop to look for White Tailed Eagles before saying our goodbyes. Following the tour post processing advice will be available if you need it to ensure you make the most of your images.
