Puffin breeding numbers have been declining for several years, and there is something sad about the puffin’s face despite the mouthful of Sand Eels.  I had the idea for the shot in early May and despite three attempted trips to the Farne Islands, it was not until July that the seas were calm enough to land. My original intention was to take the whole image in focus, but I think the variation in the depth of field here delivers a greater impact
